Welcome to my blog! My name is Psylocke Gaffud Antonio. I am 24 years, 4 months, 2 weeks, 4 days, 8 hours, 10 minutes, 22 seconds old (whew!) and I have a great mom, a cool dad, and a cute sister. I learned HTML & JavaScript when I was 7 years old and have been coding stuff ever since. I'm now building my PHP skills by helping develop MAJ, the software that powers this blog.

Habemus Papam!

April 19, 2005

5:50pm-Vatican time, 11:50pm-Manila time, white smoke was seen coming out of the Sistine Chapel chimney.

I was very excited but I thought that this may be another false alarm for there was no sound of bells heard.

6:05pm-Vatican Time, 12:05mn-Manila Time, the bells of St. Peter's Basilica started ringing.

I was willing to sleep late just to find out who the new Pope is and to listen to his Urbi et Orbi message.

After a while, the doors at the balcony opened and out came Cardinal Deacon Medina Estevez, the oldest Cardinal and the one tasked to announce who our new Pope is. I had the chance to copy a few of the first words that he said which were displayed on the TV screen:

Anuncio Vobis Gaudium Magnum Habemus Papam

After those, I understood no more of the Italian words but I clearly heard the name Joseph Ratzinger. After this was the unveiling of the Papal Coat of Arms. Then, Cardinal Ratzinger gave his simple but meaningful Urbi et Orbi message.

We have a Pope! He is Pope Benedict XVI, the 265th Pontiff.

I was lucky to have witnessed this important part of history.
